As a roleplayer I tend toward heavily researching aspects of particular characters that I'm playing so that I can properly assume the mindset of that kind of character; that and I'm just curious by nature. Toward that end, and with the assumption that others might just want to share in this information, I started this thread to share whatever information we've gathered about piloting, dogfighting, space or naval warfare, military culture so on and so forth. So please if you have any good resources worth sharing I know I'll probably read every last word. Also if you post something please give a brief synopsis or review of the material so we know what we're looking at.

Thanks in advance.

To start off I recently read an article by Mark Bowden, the author of Blackhawkdown, The article, entitled 'Kabul-ki dance' was in the November 2002 edition of The Atlantic Monthly Magazine. Its about an F15 squadron that flies over, wait for it, Kabul at the outset of the US's actions against the Taliban. The article is part highlight reel, in literary form and part salve for individuals wishing to forgo cognitive disoance whenever colateral damage is mentioned. As far as its application in our MUSH setting I'd have to say it gives a great quick introduction to the mindset and world of fighter pilots in a high-tech scenario (at least for those in the cockpit). I'd definately recommend it because its a quick read, 18 pages if you print it out from InfoTrac, and well written.

I've also got some books on order though that after I've done reading them I'll let you all know what I think.
